Homeschooling Online - Using The Bible To Learn To Read

Long before public education seized the hearts and imaginations of American school administrators, U.S. early citizens taught their children - and in many cases themselves - to read by using the Bible. The Bible is still a good teaching tool - in or out of the classroom.

You can incorporate Bible instruction into the classroom if you homeschool. There are important lessons to be learned in the Bible, including history, science, art, geography, reading, and even math. There are ways you can instruct your child in each of these disciplines using the Bible.

For instance, you can teach your child history using the Old Testament to discuss the kings of Israel and surrounding nations. Did you know that many of the kings - such as Nebuchadnezzar - are actually mentioned in popular history books and can be traced using secular documents?

The Bible has a lot of agricultural lessons in it as well. Teach your children a little bit about science, especially sciences they may not get to learn in public school such as agronomy - using the Bible as a springboard.

Art - there are plenty of music and poetry lessons in the Bible.

Geography: Where is Bethlehem?

Reading, of course, is a no brainer.

Then, there’s math. There are plenty of stories that give children opportunities to learn math skills. Search them out and have fun.
